Suzanne Buirgy: Music

September 12th (Silver Lining)

(Suzanne Buirgy/Judy Wieder)
She leaves the porch light on to illuminate the scene
She hears her neighbors laughing through the window screen
She lights a candle hoping for relief
But any comfort she can find is relatively brief
Out on the street she looks a stranger in the eye
She smiles and says hello when all she wants to do is cry
She feels attached to everyone by tiny little threads
But she knows that she is drifting over their heads

Everything looked different only yesterday
One unguarded moment took it all away
Clouds are taking over where once the sun was shining
Nothing left to do
Nothing left to do but look for the silver lining

She watched them take each other's hand and take that leap of faith
She held her breath and heard the sound that hearts make when they break
She imagined she saw angels flying head on into glass
Now she questions everything until there's nothing left to ask

Everything looked different only yesterday
One unguarded moment took it all away
Clouds are taking over where once the sun was shining
Nothing left to do
Nothing left to do but look for the silver lining

When it all gets stripped away
You can change your life they say
And she thinks she might
Through her darkest thoughts she sees something just outside her reach
Could it be the light?

She stands in the checkout line flipping through the magazines
She swears she hears her mother's voice and she wonders what that means
Everybody's talking now
She knows she's gotta try
She takes her bags out to the car and glances at the sky

Everything looked different only yesterday
One unguarded moment took it all away
Clouds are taking over where once the sun was shining
Nothing left to do
Nothing left to do but look for the silver lining
